As you all know we are approaching the end of another successful season with 3 promotions already confirmed. Thanks to all that have represented the club this year and to those running the teams and the committee who have done a great job in giving up their time to help take the club forward and provide great badminton for all.
There are 2 things that require planning so that these endeavours can be built upon further, the first of which is a summer club. There appears to be an appetite for a summer club but no firm commitment. Courts can be booked in the name of the club as long as there are people to run this and ensure that monies are collected and shuttles there for each session. Are there any volunteers who are prepared to do this and also could we please have an indication of who would like to play during the summer so we know how many courts to book? Unfortunately, if we are unable to get firm numbers or support for help then the club will not be able to book and the courts will therefore be only available to Sport Centre members. Please give it some thought and let me know via the website comments section.
The second point relates to the forthcoming AGM. It is a tradition that the whole committee resigns at this meeting allowing others to have a go at helping the club out and introduce fresh ideas. This year a large element of the existing committee will not be standing for re-election due to various increased commitment outside of the badminton club. We therefore need to see new volunteers step forward so that the success that has been achieved to date can be continued and that there is badminton provision for all. Pam will not be standing as Treasurer after 6 years great service, but she has already secured the bookings for 2013/14, so this has been done. We will need a new Chairperson and a new Fixture Secretary plus Captain roles as both Peter and myself (independently) have business commitments that will require more of our time. Matt is all loved up and planning his nuptials and a move to Worcester so his role as M&D Mixed Captain will need to be filled.
This is a great opportunity for those that have some great ideas to improve the club to step forward and make it happen. Please could you all give it some thought and if you would like to know more about the roles and how you could help then please speak to me or any of the committee members in advance of the AGM. I would like to have all possible candidates in place in advance of the AGM on 14th May so we have a seamless transition. Without these roles filled we should still have a club but it may be markedly different, more of a social entity rather than featuring in local leagues playing matches against other sides. This is fine if that is what members want, however, I would hope that we can secure enough volunteers to continue in a similar vein.
