With Pearl being the most successful mixed side in this league over many years, this was always going to be a tough fixture, and so it proved.
Pam and Mark, Paul and Helen and Sian and Peter Atkinson took to the court in determined fashion but after the 1st round of matches with Uppingham trailing 3:0 the scale of the task became increasingly daunting. With an additional point on offer for a 5:4 loss this would be the next objective if we were not to win the fixture. The 2nd round saw some improvement with Pam and Mark picking up a rubber and Paul and Helen again coming close. The final round was a real disappointment with Pam and Mark losing heavily in the deciding end against a pair they had beaten when they had last played in December. The final result of 8:1 left the team deflated but nonetheless still determined to perform well against the other R&S teams, starting with Welland Valley A on 24th Jan.
On a positive note it was great to see Peter Atkinson mincing his stuff on a competitive court again after his horrific injury early October last year.
