Melton Leagues Update

Lots of matches over the last few weeks in the Melton League, and the Ray Ayto Cup which took place this Sunday …

First, in the Ladies league, Bottesford made it 3 from 3 with a 7-2 victory at home to Mars. Mars also lost on their travels 9-0 to a good peformance to Belvoir. Bottesford travel to Belvoir this week for a match that Belvoir have to win to stand any chance of staying ahead of Bottesford come the end of the season.

In Mens Div 1, the top of the table clash between Belvoir and Mars A saw Belvoir record a 7-2 home victory, with Andy Burdett and Jon Hume winning all three of their games. Belvoir also won 8-1 away at Grantham and now have an 11 point lead over Mars with two games to play.

Grantham moved up off the bottom with a 7-2 home victory against Bottesford to be replaced by Oakham who lost 6-3 away to Bottesford.

In Mens Div 2 Staveley Ams are out on top after a 7-2 home victory against Melton OGs, with Paul Ward and Dave Core winning all three games. They are now 8 points clear of Grantham in second, but have now finished their matches whereas Grantham still have two to play and remain the favourites for the league.

In Mixed Div 1, two big wins for Mars A saw them move up to third. First a 9-0 victory away to Staveley Ams was followed by an 8-1 victory at home to Oakham. This league remains quite tight, with Bottesford on top with 47 points, but OGs are only 6 behind and have two games in hand.

In Mixed Division 2, lots of activity. First Grantham retook the top spot with a 9-0 victory at home to Great Dalby. Uppingham remain in second after a 7-2 away victory also against Great Dalby. Uppingham are strong favourites though as they are only 4 points behind, and have three games in hand.  Belvoir B moved up to third after wins against Great Dalby, Belvoir Bottesford and Grantham and are now 9 points clear of Radmoor.

The two semi-final results for the Les Hall Cup are now in. First a strong Uppingham performance against Melton OGs saw them win a tight game 5-4. OGs put in an excellent performance as they were up against an 8 point handicap, but in the end the last match went 21-18 in game three to Uppingham.  They will play Mars A in the final who defeated Bottesford 6-3, with mixed pair Tracey White and Barry Pick winning all three of their games.

Finally, the last cup competition of the season, the Ray Ayto Cup was played this Sunday with 6 teams taking part. Lots of fun was had by all the teams and there were a number of very close matches. In the end 3 teams finished with 4 wins and 1 loss. Resorting to games won saw Mars A come out on top with three 3-0 wins, Belvoir B were second with two 3-0 wins and Uppingham were third with just one 3-0 win.  Thanks go to Linda Hallam for organising this, and all the players that took part.
