Melton League Update

Six results from the last couple of weeks in the Melton League. First Bottesford Ladies travelled to play a match against Belvoir and won a very close game by 5 rubbers to 4 to claim the bonus point. Belvoir remain top bot they have finished all of their games whereas Bottesford who are only 8 points behind have 2 to play.

In Mens Division 1 Belvoir took a step towards reclaiming the league title from Mars A with a 6-2 victory at home to Oakham. Unfortunately both teams could only put out two pairs so the game was over very quickly, but this puts Belvoir on 53 points from 7 games with Mars 18 points behind after 6. Belvoir need at least 3 points from their last game away to Bottesford next month to guarantee the title, although depending what the result was between Mars A and Bottesford last Friday they may already have enough.

In Mens Division 2 Grantham B are almost there after Belvoir Bottesford were forced to concede their match. Gratham with one game to play have 55 points, a total which 3rd placed OGs can only match if they win their remaining games 9-0. They still have to play each other at OGs before the end of the year.

In Mixed Division 1 thinks remain incredibly close at the top. Belvoir A lost their first match of the season at home to OGs 5 rubbers to 4. Unfortunately they had to concede two of these games due to Phill Pugh pulling a hamstring which may have affected the result. This league is still very close with any of the top four teams still having a chance, although OGs remain favourites.

In Mixed Division 2, the first league title of the year has been decided and its congratulations to Matt Stevens and his team at Uppingham for taking the title in their first season. With 10 wins from 10 matches they have proved so far unbeatable and will be looking forward to making the big step up to division 1 for next season. A 7-2 away victory at Mars B, and confirmation of an old 9-0 victory at home to Belvoir Bottesford mean they are now not catchable.
