Melton League Update from Paul Haynes

6 results from the leagues, and one tournament to report on. First thanks to all who played in the Ray Ayto cup on Sunday 24th March.  It was great to finally see a tournament being played this year and I hope everyone enjoyed it.  The final standings were:
Mars A
Belvoir A
Radmoor
Bottesford
Mars B
Belvoir B
Congratulations to Mars A who won all of their games, only losing one rubber. A bigger handicap next year I think!
From the Ladies Division, Bottesford have gone back on top with a 6-3 victory away to Belvoir despite an excellent performance from Belvoir’s  first pair of Jane Roberts and Katie Mogg who won all of their games. Belvoir did record their first win of the year though with a hard fought 5-4 victory at home to Mars who also had a first pair that won all three in a losing cause – Tracey White and Marie Jones.
Bottesford now only need 4 points from their last game to clinch the league title for a fourth successive year.
In Mens Division 1 a second very close game between Mars A and Belvoir with Mars A finally winning 5 rubbers to 4 to revenge the reverse score at Belvoir a few weeks previous. This puts Mars A and Belvoir above Meltonshire in the current standings on 35 (from 6) and 34 (from 7) points respectively, although Meltonshire remain favourites as they are on 32 points and have only played 5 games.
In Mixed Division 1 there were mixed fortunes for the top two sides with Uppingham inflicting a first defeat of the season on Mars A by 5 rubbers to 4.  Bottesford made the most of this when they travelled to Grantham and recorded a 6-3 victory. This leaves both teams level on 60 points from 8 games, although Mars A have the advantage due to them beating Bottesford earlier in the year. The final match of the season between these two sides on May 1st will be epic!
Finally in Mixed Division 2, Radmoor continued their unbeaten season with a 6-3 win at home to Mars B.  They have now won all 8 of their games and have a huge 22 point cushion on Gratham B in second place. Indeed only Melton OGs can mathematically catch them but that would require them to take near maximum points from all of their remaining games.
