Melton League Badminton Report from Paul Haynes

Hello everyone and Happy New Year.
A few results from the second half of December, and also notice of the second tournament of the year.
The second tournament of the year is the Mens and Ladies handicap. This will be on Sunday January 27th at Asfordby Amateurs and starts at 10-00. Please contact Linda Hallam (01664 854790 – with your entries on or before Sunday January 20th, entry fee per person £4 payable on the day. The tournament will be played using the round robin format, each match will be played to 21 points. Please can you advertise this to your clubs as we are hoping for a good turnout to this traditionally well supported tournament – it would be great to see as many clubs as possible represented.
From the leagues, Mars A recorded their second win of the season in Mens Division 1 with an 8-1 victory at home to Grantham. In Mens Division 2, all clubs have now started with 3 games being played. Oakham are out on top with a 100% 3 from 3 record. A close 5-4 victory away to Belvoir Bottesford and a strong 7-2 victory at home to Mars B sees them on top with 24 points from 3. Belvoir Bottesford also recorded a 7-2 victory at home to Staveley Ams to put them in second on 12 points from 2 games.
In Mixed 1, Uppingham got their first win of the season with a 6-3 home victory against Grantham A, with first pair Helen Barnett and Pete Dee winning all three games.
In the Les Hall cup, the other two quarter-final results showed Mars A winning strongly away to Belvoir B, and Belvoir Bottesford securing an excellent 7-2 victory at home to last seasons runners up Uppingham. The semi-final line up has the two remaining division 2 teams, Belvoir Bottesford playing Mars B at home; and the other has the two division 1 teams, Belvoir A at home to Mars A with these matches being played later this month.
