  • The Ellie McAusland Handicap Tournament

The end of the season saw the annual club handicap competition which was attended by twenty members, not a bad turn out!

The evening comprised of individuals with their personal handicap, pairing with others in a set of round robin mini leagues. This gave the opportunity for everyone to have lots of games and the balance of scores produced an individual league position. The winners, runners up and next best from the mini leagues all progressed through to the knock out stages from the quarter finals onwards, where they remained with their drawn knock out stage partners.

This year’s final was staged between Mark and Jack against Pam and John.

A single game to 21 saw the mixed pairing triumphant 21 – 17 in a closely contested game which was watched by the enthusiastic crowd.

Congratulations to Pam and John   who were presented with The Ellie McAusland Trophy.

Peter has very kindly offered to donate a section of the Grainstore Brewery in Oakham and this will be Friday 27th April.  For those who have never been I can highly recommend it especially if Peter does his homemade Pork Pie (no pressure Peter!). Read more…

  • Melton and District Round up

In Mixed 2, Uppingham travelled to Belvoir Bottesford and had to concede three games due to arriving late, but still managed to win 5 games to 4.  They then travelled to Belvoir B and won a very tight match 5-4. This match was the first I can remember seeing where all 9 games went to 3 ends, and was evenly poised all the way through with Uppingham winning the final game to 15 to take the bonus point. Uppingham remain unbeaten on 59 points from 7, level with Grantham who have played 9.  Grantham are up there thanks to a dominant 9-0 victory at home to Mars B. Mars did however make up for this thanks to a 5-4 victory away to Great Dalby who are still searching for their first win of the year.
